Swedish
Generally regarded as the most common form of massage. Involves a combination of five basic, long and flowing strokes, concentrating on the muscle and connective tissue of the body for improved circulation, relaxation and overall health maintenance.
Deep tissue/sports
Focuses on the deeper layers of tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep pressure on the contracted areas. It increases circulation and encourages the breakdown and elimination of toxins and the lactic acid build up that causes post-exercise pain in the muscle. It also breaks down fibrosis and scar tissue, which can cause muscle spasm and limit normal range of motion. It thus assists in recovery and helps one reach their peak performance.
Neuromuscular Therapy
Applies concentrated pressure to "trigger points" to break cycles of muscle spasms and pain to improve general function. These points are painful, irritated areas in muscle, congested spots of muscle tissue and areas of restricted blood flow. These points most often refer pain to other areas. Treatment helps to release, normalize and eliminate dysfunction.
Reiki
Reiki means "universal life energy". It is a Japanese system of healing which promotes all aspects of wellness. Reiki is a form of touch that conducts energy from the giver to the receiver. It is a holistic therapy, in that it works on mind, body, and spirit by stimulating the body's own natural healing capacity. It can be used alone or in combination with other treatments to restore physical and emotional balance in the body.
It is important to note that Reiki affects each person differently. Many physical problems are manifestations of emotional problems. Reiki works on the cause of these problems, and as a result, those who experience Reiki may feel a great sense of emotional release. It is extremely relaxing and ideal for treating stress.
Unlike other therapeutic touch therapies, Reiki is a form of healing which involves the channeling of positive energy flow to the receiver through touch. It is not easy to describe the physiological affects of treatment; however, it is a profoundly powerful healing tool and its benefits are generally far reaching.
